Sitecore Content Hub ONE is a cloud-native, agile headless CMS, for developers and marketers to efficiently launch reusable omnichannel experiences. With it, you can quickly model, author, and deliver content of any type, or channel. Business users can manage content using a simple modern user interface, while developers can make use of comprehensive APIs and SDKs to create and deliver omnichannel experiences. Let’s look at what Content Hub ONE consists of:

  • 1. Powerful content modeling user interface
  • Content Hub ONE introduces a clear separation between content and presentation. This unique approach enables the utilization and customization of content across various channels while leveraging the most suitable tools for your organization's specific requirements.

This shift represents a significant change for marketers, granting them the ability to design a highly detailed content model that establishes relationships with other content types. It seamlessly adapts to diverse business needs, whether for channel publication or campaign purposes. With Content Hub ONE, creating and expanding the content model is a straightforward process that can be accomplished with just a few clicks.

  • 2. Modern, user-centric content authoring experience
  • With Content Hub ONE, content authors can input text, diverse data fields, multimedia content, and even make references to other content items. This modern and intuitive content authoring experience ensures that creating digital experiences for your customers is both enjoyable and effortless.

  • 3. Media management for images
  • Content Hub ONE builds upon our extensive expertise in the digital asset management field, inheriting its legacy from Content Hub DAM. Serving as the younger sibling to Content Hub, Content Hub ONE offers streamlined yet robust media management capabilities. Users can effortlessly upload, tag, and publish assets, seamlessly integrating them within their content items. This integration enables omnichannel distribution, allowing content to be delivered through Edge CDN for a wide-reaching presence across multiple channels.

  • 4. Globally distributed GraphQL APIs
  • Content delivery in Content Hub ONE is facilitated through edge geo-distributed GraphQL API endpoints. These endpoints enable the seamless delivery of diverse content types to any touchpoint or channel. There are two specific API endpoints available:

    • Preview GraphQL API endpoint: This endpoint allows the delivery of complete content and media items, regardless of their publication status, including items in ‘draft’ or ‘changed’ status. It proves beneficial for delivering content to staging frontend applications, providing a comprehensive preview experience.

    • Delivery GraphQL API endpoint: Designed for efficient and scalable global content delivery, this endpoint focuses on published content and media. It ensures seamless distribution to live front-end applications, enabling a dynamic and responsive experience for end-users across different channels.

  • 5. Content Management API for developers
  • Content Hub ONE has been developed with an API-first approach right from its foundation. It boasts a robust Content Management API that adheres to the OpenAPI specifications standards. As part of this API-first design, Content Hub ONE provides an out-of-the-box Swagger app tooling, allowing easy exploration and interaction with the API. Additionally, you have the flexibility to utilize your preferred OpenAPI tool, such as Postman or any other compatible tool, for seamless integration and customization according to your specific needs.

  • 6. Command Line Interface (CLI), JavaScript SDK and Client SDK
  • The Content Hub ONE Command Line Interface (CLI) empowers you to efficiently handle content and media within a Content Hub ONE instance and seamlessly deliver it to your preferred front-end system. By leveraging the CLI, you can communicate with Content Hub ONE instances through APIs, utilizing the provided SDK, and executing commands in the form of text lines. This streamlined approach ensures effective management of content and facilitates smooth integration with your chosen front-end system.

How does Content Hub ONE help Marketers and Developers?

Content Hub ONE is designed for brands that need an agile headless CMS to support quickly evolving experiences. It is aimed at marketers that are looking for an easy interface to model, create and update content efficiently and independently, in a flexible but structured way.

And for developers that are looking for flexible front-end components, a backend architecture with simple APIs and documentation to deliver the content to all touchpoints fast and easily.

Content Hub ONE offers the advantage of separating content modeling and authoring while enabling rapid global distribution. This brings two key benefits. Firstly, it serves as an accessible entry point for non-Sitecore customers to effortlessly sign up and explore the product, as content is readily accessible through APIs. Secondly, Content Hub ONE contributes to the ongoing decomposition of the traditional DXP monolith by adopting a more modular and composable approach to DXP.

Choosing between XM Cloud and Content Hub ONE

XM Cloud serves as a centralized CMS for an organization's primary Dotcom properties and multisite/multi-region needs. On the other hand, Content Hub ONE is well-suited for teams that prioritize agility and reduced IT involvement and may not require the extensive capabilities of XM Cloud. It functions as an ideal "second CMS" commonly found in organizations.

Content Hub ONE is particularly suitable for tech-savvy marketing teams in both large and small enterprises who wish to compose their DXP without needing the full range of features provided by a comprehensive CMS like XM Cloud. With Content Hub ONE, users gain essential content modeling, content authoring, and Content APIs that are expected from a headless CMS. Additionally, it offers global content delivery capabilities to empower multichannel experiences.

Content Hub ONE vs Content Hub DAM vs Content Hub Operations

Content Hub ONE is a dedicated and flexible headless CMS that operates independently as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) application. It empowers brands to efficiently launch and oversee digital channel experiences. With its comprehensive set of features, including content modeling, content authoring, media management, content management APIs, and global delivery through GraphQL APIs, Content Hub ONE enables seamless content management for various digital touchpoints.

In contrast, the Content Hub suite, comprising Content Hub DAM (Digital Asset Management) and Content Hub Operations, offers a holistic solution for omnichannel management aligned with a brand's overall marketing strategy. It addresses broader challenges related to content operations and digital asset management.

This suite caters to organizations seeking to gain control over their digital assets across their enterprise landscape. It facilitates managing digital asset rights and licensing, streamlining content operations and strategy, and providing collaboration and marketing workflow tools that extend beyond the more lightweight capabilities of Content Hub ONE as a headless CMS.

Basic Workflow with the Team on Content in Content Hub ONE

Content Hub ONE introduces a straightforward two-step process that seamlessly transitions content from the draft stage to publication. Initially, when content items are created, they are automatically assigned the "draft" status. It is only upon publishing that the content becomes accessible through the delivery API endpoint, enabling front-end consumption.

In the event of any modifications made to the content within an existing published item, the application will designate the content item as "changed." For the updated version to be reflected in the delivery endpoint and be available for frontend consumption, the user will be prompted to review and publish their changes. This ensures that the most recent version of the content is accurately presented and accessible to users interacting with the front-end system.

Content Hub ONE: Cloud-native or Hosted in the Cloud?

Content Hub ONE is a cloud-native Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) product. It is developed, designed, and deployed as a cloud-native application, utilizing a composable architecture. It is centrally hosted and licensed through a subscription model. Software updates, bug fixes, and general maintenance are managed by Sitecore, the provider of Content Hub ONE.

Users can access the application through Cloud Portal or via the provided APIs. There is no need to install the software on individual machines, resulting in smoother and more reliable group access to the program.

Differentiating true modern SaaS offerings from architectures merely hosted in the cloud can be described as ‘cloud-native’ versus ‘cloud-hosted.’ Authentic cloud-native software vendors leverage resource pooling, rapid elasticity, on-demand services, and other tools to deliver the best possible product to the end customer. This, in turn, benefits the customer by eliminating concerns related to managing complex software systems and allows them to focus on their core business.

Understanding the distinction between cloud-native and cloud-hosted is crucial in assessing whether the technology can provide the scalability required to support long-term growth effectively.

In Sum

The uptime availability of Content Hub ONE is 99.9% at a service-level agreement (SLA). It also provides disaster recovery. The CMS’s global availability is guaranteed in five regions: Western Europe, US East, US West, Australia East, and Japan. Customers have the flexibility to utilize their Content Hub ONE instance for content delivery to production frontend applications through the delivery GraphQL endpoint. Similarly, they can leverage the instance to deliver all types of content, including items in the draft status, to front-end applications using the preview GraphQL endpoint.

If customers prefer to have a distinct Content Hub ONE environment specifically for staging or development purposes, they have the option to acquire an additional Content Hub ONE license subscription. This allows them to set up and manage a separate Content Hub ONE environment tailored to their specific staging or development needs.
